Democratic Representative JA Moore of District 15 recognizes the importance of helping his neighbors during South Carolina’s ongoing health crisis with the unprecedented spread of COVID-19.
According to his campaign website, Representative Moore has over fifteen years of professional experience as a chef. Since the start of the pandemic, Moore has put that experience to good use and created his own catering business which now serves the Charleston and Berkeley areas.
Some of the recipients of Moore’s catered meals include medical workers in Charleston and Berkeley counties, as well as essential workers at a Publix in the town of Sullivan’s Island, per the representative’s Twitter. Just this past week, Moore and his team fed the healthcare workers of Fetter Health in Moncks Corner, workers at MUSC’s Child Care Center in North Charleston, and teachers in the school district of Berkeley County.
Representative Moore has provided more than just home-cooked meals to his neighbors, though. The legislator has hosted a series of video interviews with local leaders and health experts as part of his “Navigating the Coronavirus” program, providing both useful information and some much-needed levity to residents of District 15 throughout this difficult time.
It is heartening to see our representatives working for the people of South Carolina even when they are not in the capital city. More legislators should follow Representative Moore’s lead and show that they support their constituents not just when their votes are needed, but when they most need a helping hand.
