Democratic candidate for S.C. House District 84, Jennifer Lariscey offers residents of the district a much needed and welcomed alternative (and dare we say improvement) from their previous Representative Chris Corley. You may remember Corley for his infamous Confederate Flag Christmas Card or his less than graceful exit from the House amid charges of criminal domestic violence.
Though the card was in poor taste, it’s the domestic violence that prompted him to resign, triggering yet another special election in South Carolina this calendar year.
Jennifer who promises to be a “Voice for Change” in the district has never been involved in politics, but brings some interesting life and business experiences to the table.
The mother of four, who recently lost her own husband to an opioid overdose, is vocal about addressing the drug abuse epidemic that has gripped the Palmetto State. She is also a self-made businesswoman who founded a newspaper in Aiken to promote local businesses, and is the creator of an online yard sale Facebook group that boasts a following of over 40,000.
Lariscey has crafted a message uniquely her own that she hopes will resonate with voters who are sick of the status quo. According to her website she looks to dismantle “ the old system of continuing to elect career politicians that move from one elected office to another…” and focus on addressing the issues that people face daily.
Though Lariscey is a newcomer she may have a bright future ahead of her. So far she’s garnered support from notable elected officials like Representatives Russell Ott and Gilda Cobb-Hunter.
Jennifer will face the winner of the Republican primary, Ronnie Young, and Constitution Party candidate, S. Lance Weaver, in the special election to be held on May 30th.
While she faces an uphill battle to “flip the seat” in the mostly red district, Palmetto Insiders believe she is exactly the type of candidate Democrats need for future success.
