South Carolina Democrats Elect Trav Robertson to Chair Party

This weekend South Carolina Democratic Party Delegates elected Trav Robertson to serve as their Chairperson for the next two years, and more importantly the 2018 Midterm Elections.

Trav successfully defeated two opponents, Cedric Spain and Susan Smiththe candidate we endorsed in the race.

While we believe Susan Smith has the potential to be “transformational leader” of the party, we are extremely confident that Robertson will be a great party chair, and is able and more than willing to mix-it-up with the failed Republican leadership that has bankrupted our state the past 15 years.

As we stated before, we believe all the candidates in the race were more than qualified to lead SC Democrats, and begin the process of rebuilding the state party, with the ultimate goal of starting to win elections again. Robertson definitely has tons of experience winning big races in South Carolina, and across the country. Many convention attendees believe this point was the ultimate factor that decided the race.

Two of his most impressive past clients, former State Representative Anton Gunn, and newly elected State Senator Mia McLeod, spoke in nomination and support of Robertson. In addition, Robertson had key endorsements from Mayor Steve Benjamin, Assistant Minority Leader Russell Ott, and possibly the biggest of all, Congressman Jim Clyburn.

Although South Carolina Democrats face a long and difficult road ahead, we believe Trav Robertson is a leader that will help SC Democrats accomplish great things in the coming years.

We applaud both Susan Smith and Cedric Spain for their willingness to run. We believe the contested race helped in motivating the activist of the party, and convention attendees left Columbia, “fired up and ready to go!”

We wish Trav the best of luck as he prepares to hit the ground running with special elections in a number of key regions of the state, beginning with the Special Election in State House District 84, formerly held by this guy, and with the 5th Congressional District Special Election.

With Robertson at the helm, Democrats should be optimistic about their chances in the coming years…we certainly are!

Kick butt Trav!!!
