With South Carolinians heading to the polls tomorrow, we thought it would be a good time to tell you about some key races and candidates to be watching as results come in.
- District 15 (Berkeley, Charleston) JA Moore (D) v. Samuel Rivers (R-i)
Rep. Samuel Rivers will have some competition from Democratic challenger JA Moore tomorrow. Moore is running on a platform that stresses economic opportunity, affordable housing, and good quality education and healthcare.
- District 110 (Charleston) Ben Pogue (D) v. William S. Cogswell, Jr. (R-i)
Democrat Ben Pogue is challenging Rep. William Cogswell Sr. in House District 110. Pogue is an attorney and former broadcast meteorologist for News 2 in Charleston, running on a platform that stresses responsible, sustainable growth and infrastructure that can withstand both overdevelopment and the frequent flooding the area has seen in recent years.
- District 115 (Charleston) Carol Tempel (D) v. Peter McCoy (R-i)
Carol Tempel, a former educator, is running on a platform that prioritizes quality public education, affordable and accessible healthcare, good jobs, and safe communities. She’s running against Rep. Peter McCoy, who has been in the House since 2011.
- District 81 (Aiken) Elise Fox (D) v. Bart Blackwell (R-i)
Democrat Elise Fox, a Fellow Engineer at the Savannah River National Laboratory, is running against Rep. Bart Blackwell in House District 81. Fox supports a plan to improve South Carolina’s environmental infrastructure and increase funding for public schools, along with a proposal for an independent commission that investigates ethic violations by our officials.
- District 2 (Oconee) Jody G. Gaulin (D) v. Bill Sandifer (R-i)
Democrat Jody Gaulin is challenging Rep. Bill Sandifier for District 2’s House seat. Gaulin is running on a platform that focuses on good public education, affordable and good quality healthcare, and investment in infrastructure.
- District 11 (Abbeville, Anderson) Devon Smith (D) v. Craig Gagnon (R-i)
Incumbent Craig Gagnon is being challenged by Democrat Devon Smith in House District 11. As a former teacher, coach, administrator, and principal, Smith supports fully funding South Carolina’s schools, as well as increasing funding for and creating jobs in county offices.
- District 26 (York) John Kraljevich (D) v. Raye Felder (R-i)
Democrat John Kraljevich is challenging Rep. Raye Felder in House District 26. Kraljevich, a small business owner, is running to protect small businesses from harmful regulations that favor larger competitors and to improve South Carolina’s roads and infrastructure in order to decrowd our schools and reduce traffic.
- District 84 (Aiken) Jennifer Laricsey (D) v. Ronnie Young (R-i)
Democrat Jennifer Lariscey, a businesswoman and advocate, is running against Rep. Ronnie Young in House District 84. Lariscey has experienced South Carolina’s difficult healthcare system-first hand, and is campaigning for better, more efficient healthcare options and increased accessibility for families across the state.
- District 114 (Charleston, Dorchester) Dan P. Jones (D) v. Lin Bennett (R-i) v. Melissa Couture (Lib)
Incumbent Lin Bennett will face two challengers tomorrow, Democrat and small business owner Dan P. Jones and Libertarian Melissa Couture. This race will be interesting to watch simply to see how the vote ends up getting split between the three.
