Secretary of State Rex Tillerson made a bombshell announcement in a rare press conference Wednesday: effective immediately, he would remain as President Donald Trump’s Secretary of State.
Addressing the report by NBC News, Tillerson told a shocked press corps that he had “never considered leaving this post” and that “Vice President [Mike Pence] has never had to persuade me to remain as Secretary of State.” He further astounded the audience in his assessment that his State Department and the Trump White House had “created international unity.”
The former ExxonMobil CEO addressed rumors that he had called the President a “moron;” he denied them, sort of.
Tillerson lightened the mood with a few humorous remarks, saying that President Trump is “smart” and that accountability is one of Trump’s “bedrock values.”
It is unclear what Tillerson’s plans are upon not leaving his post, but he is expected to have much in the way of free time.
