There’s nothing more important for democracy than a well informed electorate which is why we were surprised to see that Representative Nancy Mace (R- Charleston) has declined to debate her Democratic challenger, Jen Gibson. Based on the photo above, it sure isn’t because she’s camera shy.
The invitation came from the League of Women Voters ahead of the November general election. Mace is running for reelection after being elected in a special election in January. You would think that she would want people to hear what she has to say considering the election is only six weeks away. The residents of District 99 deserve better.
Her opponent, Jen Gibson, a community advocate and small business owner, is ready to debate and we applaud her for trying. It is so important for the community to hear from those running for office so they can make the best possible decision for their communities.
Gibson says her experience as a small business owner help qualify her for public office and to best serve the people of her district. She wants to give a voice to the underrepresented and believes the government should focus on diversity, inclusion and innovation.
We’d love to tell you what Nancy Mace stands for, but sadly she doesn’t seem willing to tell us. Is that the level of transparency you want in your elected officials?
