Brawley Wins SC House Seat !

Yesterday, Democrat Wendy Brawley easily secured a victory in the special election for the South Carolina House of Representatives District 70. The special election was triggered by the passing of long time Representative and progressive icon, Joe Neal.

Brawley defeated her Republican opponent, Bill Strickland, with 78 percent of the vote in the heavily Democrat district comprised mostly of Lower Richland and a small portion of Sumter. She is the founder of IMARA women’s magazine and previously held a position on the Richland 1 school board.

Brawley received the endorsement of the Neal family, several influential members of the House, the Progressive Network, and House Progressive Caucus early on in her campaign. Brawley has been vocal about her intention to carry on the legacy of the late Joe Neal. She’s got big shoes to fill, but something tells us she’s up to the challenge. Congratulations Wendy!

We first wrote about Brawley following her primary win, read that article here.
